Genova and the Riviera
Genova is usually overlooked on most people’s Italian holidays, and it is not a traditional tourist town, however, both Genova, and the region do deserve some time! Genova is one of the oldest cities in Italy, with the old part of the city dating back about 1000 years. There are heaps of little alleyways to explore, I’m still amazed that after 7 months in Genova I still stumble across the occasional alleyway that I hadn’t noticed before.
There are also plenty of museums (Palazzo Bianco even has some Caravaggio) and a cool port with heaps of impressive boats for the aspiring millionaire!
Further afield… we are of course the Capital city of Liguria, that is the Italian Riviera! There are many pretty towns dotted along the eastern coast well worth the visit. Our wedding will be in this direction, but in the meantime we highly recommend day trips to:
Portofino and Santa Margherita (a favourite hangout of the rich and famous)
Camogli and Rapallo
Chiavari
Cinque Terra (although this is very touristy! But good if you’re missing English)
